This series of classes will qualify a successful candidate to apply to be appointed as a NM CCW Instructor and as a TX LTC Instructor.

HPCC is offering a series of courses in November 2026 in Clovis, NM. We are offering an NRA Basic Pistol course (BP), an NRA Range Safety Officer Course (RSO), an NRA Basic Instructor Training course (BIT) and an NRA Pistol Instructor course (PI).
The Pistol Series of courses:
NRA BP on November 1, 2026, $249.00. NRA RSO on November 2, 2026, $249.00 NRA BIT on November 3, 2026, $249.00.00. This fee is not charged if the candidate is also taking PI.NRA PI on November 4-5, 2026, $599.00. Candidates who have not completed BIT after November 4, 2024, will have to successfully complete BIT on November 4, 2026. Call for instructions, 575-985-5555. The total fee for the pistol series including all four courses will be discounted from $1,096.00 to $799.00 for candidates who complete the full series. This amount will include student books, materials and 4 hours of range time. The fee paid to HPCC will not cover any fees due to NRA to complete each candidate’s credentialling registration as an instructor or RSO. These fees are paid to NRA. These fees are usually payable to the NRA every two years. SEE NOTE 3:
NOTE 4: HPCC has a minimum number of candidates required to put on any course. Also, NRA requires a minimum of four candidates to conduct any Instructor course, any Coach course, or any CRSO course.
The deposit for each course will be due once a course has the minimum number of registered candidates. Please do not make any payments, or deposits until we call you. If by the registration close date, the series does not have enough candidates, the series will be cancelled, or rescheduled to a later timeframe, and no deposits will be collected.
HPCC will always refund any fees collected on the rare occasion where we are forced to cancel any course. Refunds are not offered for no-show candidates. Substituting another candidate in your place with at least 72 hours-notice can sometimes be allowed; provided the substitute candidate meets all the prerequisites. Reschedules can sometimes be offered if requested far enough in advance.
NRA student materials are included with the fee for each course, or series of courses and will be provided to each candidate. The fee for each basic class includes one session lasting two hours of live fire range time and coaching; this is when the NRA live fire qualification for each series will be attempted. Any candidate requiring additional range time, or range days to shoot the NRA required qualification will be responsible for paying any additional range fees.
Candidates should bring a .22 caliber pistol with open, or iron sights and sufficient ammunition to fire the required qualification for the pistol series of classes. Center fire pistols with open, or iron sights are allowed, but rimfire is suggested.
NRA allows optics, but we do not allow optics. Call us to discuss why we only allow iron, or open sights and why that could be a significant advantage to you.
All firearms and ammunition must meet the approval of the HPCC training team.
HPCC will bring loaner .22 pistols that are conducive to this type of live fire qualification. You provide your ammo.
NRA has live fire prequalification requirements for each Instructor course. The live fire might be conducted in the evening after classroom training, so those days could be a little longer than the scheduled 9:00 am to 5:00 pm class days; please plan accordingly.
NOTE 5: This is not exact, but in general the prequals look like this:
Pistol Instructor candidates, among other requirements, will need to be able to shoot a twenty shot, slow fire, six-inch group at fifteen yards, standing, unsupported, with open or iron sights, no optics, using as many hands as you would like.
Other requirements are things like demonstrating impeccable firearm safety standards while handling firearms and simulators. Each course also has a written evaluation.
We will bring loaner .22 pistols that are very conducive to this style of qualification. You provide the ammo.
NOTE 6: If for any reason you currently have any trouble shooting these qualifications, do not worry! You are hiring us to train you to be able to shoot these qualifications if you attend any of our basic classes. You are hiring us to train you to be able to teach others to be able to shoot these qualifications if you attend any of our instructor classes! While we cannot guarantee you will be able to shoot the mandatory prequalification courses of fire after our instruction, nor do we offer any money back if we are unable to teach you how to shoot these qualifications, we are highly successful at teaching candidates to be able to shoot these qualifications! If you do it the way we will train you, the way the NRA wants us to train you, you should be fine! Remember this, how crappy of a shot does someone need to be before we say maybe that someone should not be teaching others how to shoot? Without meaning to offend anyone, the requirements listed in NOTE 5 are not competitive requirements. I have teenage male and female marksmen in our shooting club (see High Plains Marksmanship Academy) who shoot far above these qualifications. They do this using the same methods and fundamentals we will be talking about.
Go to the range and see if you can currently shoot at the level of these quals, or better. If you are having any difficulty at all, come to class with an open mind and we will do our best to help you make it happen! We are very proud of our track record of getting people able to shoot these qualifications. We are also very proud of our track record of taking shooters who are highly accomplished marksmen and decreasing their group sizes too!

NOTE 7: Candidates are urged to bring lunch, drinks, snacks and a cooler each day. Lunchtime each day will be a working lunch to maximize class time productivity. Here is a question for you. If we have ten candidates in a class, and we give everyone from noon till 1:00 pm for lunch, how many of the ten will not make it back until sometime well after 1:00? Besides that, we would have to start an hour earlier to make up for the lunch hour. Bring your mom with you or be prepared to clean up yourself! Any candidate who wishes to bring a smoker, and who can properly smoke a moist brisket for all of us in the class to enjoy, oh who am I kidding, as long as they can provide this for the instructors, that candidate will receive extra points on all evaluations!; subject to the instructors approval of the brisket!
As more candidates register for and pay for an individual course, or courses, the total fee for that course, or the courses may be reduced incrementally for each candidate.
Note 8: If you are an NRA member, your course registration information must match your NRA membership information exactly, such as name, address, phone number and NRA membership number (excluding the three zeros that may be at the beginning of your NRA membership number). Do not register for a course without using your NRA membership number unless you are OK paying the much higher credential registration fees to the NRA.
